Nuxia floribunda

Attractive evergreen tree to ±8m, prefers moist areas. Shiny leaves almost obscured by large sprays of small, sweetly-scented cream flowers. Water regularly and plant in deep, rich soil, responds well to regular feeding with organic fertiliser or 2:3:2.

Rigid, low shrublet with spine-tipped branchlets bearing small leaves. It becomes completely covered in small, lilac pea-shaped flowers, followed by fleshy, shiny red edible fruits. Alkaline, full sun, drought tolerant.

Location: Namaqualand to E. Cape.

A very beautiful Karoo plant forming a small tree up to 2m covered in bright red balloon like seed pods in summer. It has very specific growing requirements, full sun, well drained position and winter rainfall only. Does well in a container in an environment which can be controlled e. g. a veranda or conservatory.

Location: Little Karoo to Uitenhage, arid areas. Protected species.

An evergreen species, but can be deciduous in colder areas. Lovely blue, scented flowers. Needs full sun. Please allow some time - one day at least - for us to extract the plants from the dam!!

Beautiful tree with shiny leaves, bright yellow flowers, interesting fruit. The bark which is attractively mottled with patches of grey, cream, mauve and pink. Mulch thickly with good compost, water regularly and feed with high nitrogen organic or chemical fertilizer to boost growth. Plant in well drained sunny position in rich loamy medium and prune to shape.

One of our loveliest small South African trees. Added to the pleasure of yellow blooms followed by red bracts and black berries is the beauty of the pale grey bark which peels away revaling opalescent, creamy underbark.

Colour throughout the year, be it pink new leaves, bright yellow flowers, or black fruits suspended below bright red sepals resembling Mickey Mouse faces. Very ornamental - drought resistant shrub. Plant in well drained sunny position in rich loamy medium and prune to shape. Fertilise sparingly and only in summer, regular dressing of rich compost is best.
