Rare plant with striking scarlet flowers and large, lush, shiny green leaves, ±3m. A treasure in any garden. Plant in a sheltered, preferably east-facing aspect. Mulch thickly with good compost, water regularly and feed with high nitrogen organic or chemical fertilizer to boost growth.

Very ornamental small tree or large shrub which grows on forest margins it has glossy leaves and showy bunches of large bright red pomegranate like flowers. Shade loving, makes a good container plant and responds well to regular watering and feeding with slow release 3:1:5 or organic fertilizer, clip to shape. Hates wet feet!

Location: Swellendam to KZN and Limpopo.
