English: Sausage Tree
Structural shade tree, large maroon flowers followed by large, oblong, grey fruits. Leaves large, deep green, very showy . Mulch thickly with good compost, water regularly and feed with high nitrogen organic or chemical fertilizer to boost growth. The huge, sausage-like pods are famous, but it will not set seed in the Cape as the pollinator is absent.

Large fast-growing tree with cream flowers. The fruits are round green capsules containing bright orange seeds in summer. Mulch thickly with good compost, water regularly and feed with high nitrogen organic or chemical fertilizer to boost growth. Needs a sunny position. Acraea butterflies breed on this tree & their larvae are eaten by birds. Ideal for ecologically minded gardeners.
